| I have now twice seen the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express on my railfanning trips. | |||
Innsbruck, Austria, August 19, 2009On the internet I had seen that the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express would come to Innsbruck late afternoon on August 19, 2009. The same night we had booked a small hotel about 1/2 hour south of Innsbruck, so this was a perfect opportunity to see the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. We arrived in Innsbruck at around 17 and found a parking garage.The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express had a planned arrival at 17:26, but it was about 5 minuttes late. At 17:31 it rolled into Innsbruck Hbf from the south. In Innsbruck the train had a scheduled stop of 20 minutes because it had to change direction, continuing south and west out of Innsbruck on the Arlberg line. The route for the train was Venezia - Brenner - Innsbruck - Buchs - Paris - Calais. The compositon of the train was: sleeping car 3425 + slepping car 3483 + sleeping car 3555 + slepping car 3525 + sleeping car 3482 + service car 3912 + bar wagon 3674 + dining car 4095 + Pullman car 4141 + dining car 4110 + service car 3915 + slepping car 3544 + sleeping car 3553 + sleeping car 3552 + sleeping car 3473. | |||

Hazebrouk, France, August 23, 2007On August 23, 2007, I was in Hazebrouck to railfan. I meet two french railfans - they told me they waited for the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express - and of course I also had to see this famous train. It was delayed about 1 hour and while we waited we talked about trains and I got a lot of useful information. At 18:38 the Orient-Express showed up, headed by SNCF BB 115023. | |||

Train 18 (Nice - Moskow) in Nice, France, September 26, 2010Actually not the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, but still a kind of luxury train. On September 23, 2010, train no. 17 Moskow - Nice departed Moskow Belorussky station on its maiden journey, arriving in Nice on September 25. The next day, on September 26, 2010, at 19:22, the train departed on the maiden return journey to Moskow as train 18. And having arrived in Nice the same day, I of course was at the station to see this special train.The route from Moskow to Nice is via Minsk - Warszawa - Wien - Innsbruck - Verona - Milano - Genova. The speed is quite slow, here the train journey is the vacation, not just transportation. | |||

Tog D1249 (Berlin - Moskva/Saratov) in Berlin, Germany, November 9-10, 2007Not the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express but still an exotic train. D1249 went from Berlin Zoo to Moskva (with some cars going to Saratov) via Warszawa - Brest - Minsk - Smolensk. The train was composed of cars from Belarus railway (BCh) and Russian railways (RZD) and was pulled by Railion 189 098. | |||
