MTAB - the iron ore trainsThe famous iron ore trains is operated by MTAB, a part of the company LKAB that runs the mines. The ore trains runs to the harbours in Narvik (Norway) and Luleå. The number of trains in each direction (the trains return empty to Kiruna) is 12-13 a day to Narvik and perhaps 5 a day to Luleå. A typical train has 52 wagons each carrying 80 tons of ore.The locomotives are DM3 (7200 kW) or a pair of El 12 (each having 5450 kW) | |||
