Edinburgh, August 2 - August 5 The days in Edinburgh was mostly spent doing normal vacation stuff, but I had time to visit Edinburgh Wawerley, the main station in Edinburgh, a few times.

One day I made a short trip to Sauchton Junction in a western Edinburgh suburb - Sauchton Junction is where the mainline splits up into the line to to Glasgow and the line to the north of Scotland (Aberdeen and Inverness). I had seen some nice pictures from around here, with Edinburgh Castle as background - but they are building a new roadbridge, that blocks the view.

Rail traffic in Edinburgh, like the rest of United Kingdom, is almost entirely based on diesel and electric train sets. Rail freight exists, but not in a scale like in for example Germany.
