| A thursday afternoon in August my girlfriend and I took the boat from Copenhagen to Oslo. The weather was fine so we drank a beer on the sun-deck as we sailed out of the port of Copenhagen. Later we had dinner as the sun set.
The next morning was just as nice - we had breakfast as we sailed up through the Oslo fiord. |

From Oslo we drowe west through Drammen, Kongsberg and Haukelirend. On the way we saw Heddal stave church.
In the afternoon we climbed up on Haukelifjell, for the first time we were up in the mountains. |

The highest point on the road over Haukelifjell is 1148 m above sea level if you take the old road instead of the new tunnel. From here a long descent to Røldal and then up again to Seljestad, also this time taking the old road. |  View from Seljestad over Røldalsvatnet (50 kb) |

| From the old road there is a nice view over the Folgefonna glacier. Folgefonna is the 3rd largest glacier in Norway. It is possible to get close or even on the glacier, for example in Buar - see some pictures from my trip there in 1996.  We continued north with a ferry over the Hardanger fiord from Utne to Kvanndal (76 kb) |

When we landed in Kvanndal we continued the last part to Bergen - going west we had the sun directly against us, making driving a bit harder. |
