August 18, 2000 Briksdalsbreen

One of the things I wanted to do was to take a tour on one of the norwegian glaciers. Near Stryn is Briksdalsbreen, an arm of Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier in Norway and Northern Europe. Here are guided tours - and of course I joined a tour. Briksdalsbreen

We were about 10 persons from all over the world in our group (but only the guide was norwegian). Before we climbed the glacier, we was equipped with mountainering equipment. And then we started climbing. It was absolutly one of the most spectacular things on my trip.

After the tour on the glacier my next destination was Sognefjellet. To get there, I took the old road up over Videseteren - not the fastest way, but absolutely the most scenic.

Snow on the top

On the top there's still a lot of snow. The altitude is about 1100-1200 m.
